A few years ago I recorded my first album, and as an independent artist, I paid for it with a combination of income from a second job, credit cards and a ridiculous personal loan that really came back to bite me later on. At the same time, I was buying my first home, so I had barely enough money at the end of the recording process to get it mastered and replicated, much less promote the album.

I knew that I did not want to create more debt recording my second album, so I looked into microfunding opportunities. There are a number of websites that will handle a fan-funded campaign for an artist, and I considered using one of them. Then I realized that I have everything I need to support my own campaign–I handle all of my own graphic design, web design, and videography, so I can run a successful campaign without hiring someone else to do it for me. I can take 100% of the money raised and put it straight into the music on the album. And I can do this all without incurring more debt.

So, on my birthday, November 21st, I will be launching my album fund raising campaign in full force, complete with goals and incentives for your donations and contributions. I feel very passionately about my music and its message and I know that I have an obligation to get it out there to as many people as possible.

I am still calculating what I will need so I can set my goal, but here is a list of some of the expenses that will be included in my budget:

  • Studio time
  • Studio Musicians
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • Producer’s fee
  • CD Replication
  • Promotion

And then there is a general list of incentives that I will work into the campaign:

  • copies of the album, of course!
  • copies of the bonus DVD of the making of the album
  • DVD’s of my weekly show, “Love on a Sunday”
  • DVD collection of “The Bake Break” episodes
  • Liz Lee and Liz Lee Band t-shirts
  • graphic design and web design services
  • And much more!

So, look for my official campaign launch on November 21st to see how you can be a part of bringing this album to life.

Many Blessings!

Liz

In a little over a month, I’m starting the second season of my show, “Love on a Sunday.” Whereas the first season I had one show a month, this season I will offer a show every Sunday from September 18 through November 20. What can we expect from the show this time around?

  • New music, of course!
  • The return of “The Bake Break,” a mini-cooking show segment where I share my favorite recipes
  • Songwriting segments where I show footage of songwriting sessions with some of my favorite artists (like Charlie Wooton and Nathan Morgan)
  • Updates on the progress of my second album, Passion Recovery
  • Songwriting challenges where YOU give me the inspiration to write a song (and it could end up on my album!)
  • Conversations/interviews with people who inspire me (and hopefully inspire you)
  • And much more!

This show is an opportunity for me to be who I am, to share with you who I am, and hopefully to inspire you, in turn, to be yourself. On that note, here are a few of my favorite lines from my new song, “There’s a World Out There”:

Time to stop all the comparing
There’s a reason you’re exactly who you are–
No one in the world like you

There’s a voice you can be sharing
Something no one’s ever heard before
Someone in the world needs you

I’ve decided that the only way I’m ever going to be truly happy is to just be myself. I have spent so much time and energy comparing myself to others (and therefore judging myself way too harshly) that I am exhausted on a profound level. Sometimes I have to expend all my energy trying to do something before I am able to really surrender and let my life flow in the best possible way, and I believe that I am now at that point, if not close.

So here I am, Liz Lee, with all my joys and fears and everything in between. My goal for “Love on a Sunday” is to come across as authentically me as possible–however that unfolds throughout the season.
